Oh, Diana Lockwood, how delicious you are…
One of the pleasures of late is playing villains, and every cliché is true — they really do have more fun. They also drive the story and, as such, are at the center of every plot twist. I remember during “The Leftovers” being unable to unhook from the need to have audiences like me completely. This may have been my own hang-up, or it may have been residue from being a series lead on network television, where no matter how far out my character went, she had to return to a moral, stable center. I was jealous of the bad guy parts, where that burden wouldn’t be on my shoulders, and wondered if I could ever get there. Diana Lockwood freed me. The more committed I was to her sociopathy and her desires, the more interesting my acting became. Diana is evil, slinky, funny, sexy, vulnerable, and tragic. Plus, my co-stars were Billy Bob Thornton, Dennis Quaid, and Griffin Dunne. Heaven.
