Center for Reproductive Rights

Along with Elizabeth Banks and others, I serve on the Create Council for CRR. The Center is at the forefront of international legal protections for reproductive rights of all kinds – IVF, pre- and post-natal care, and abortion rights, among others. They asked me to be part of an amicus brief in the 2016 Supreme Court case Whole Women’s v. Hellderstedt, and the experience changed my life. I was never secretive about my abortion, but I didn’t realize how few women spoke about it simply and without shame. Now, post Roe, the Center continues to fight for reproductive rights of all kinds. https://reproductiverights.org

Shout Your Abortion

My friend Amelia Bonow started this organization to remove stigma, secrecy, and shame about abortion. She is fun, fearless, brilliant, and imaginative in keeping abortion – an experience shared by 1 in 4 American women – out of the closet and into acceptance. https://shoutyourabortion.com

Indivisible Logo
My local group! We get together to make calls, learn about issues, support campaigns, and do what we can to create a more just, equitable and progressive world. Finding Indivisible meant I never had to be alone with anxious political thoughts ever again. We are working tirelessly and with joy for a better country. https://www.indivisible.org

Everytown for Gun Safety
Gun violence is now the number one cause of death for children and teens in the United States. The majority of Americans want better gun laws. No other developed nation on the planet has been hijacked by the gun industry the way America has — we can do better. But it will take all of us every day. Join us! https://www.everytown.org
March for Our Lives

My son Bodhi and I marched in Washington DC after Parkland, and we were all stunned by the fortitude, vision, and fearlessness of the student leaders. (My essay “For Sam Fuentes” honors that day.) Sadly, gun violence has only increased since then. However, since most Americans want better gun laws, this is a solvable problem! Elect lawmakers who will protect us and support this amazing group. https://marchforourlives.com

Feminist Majority

The leaders of the Feminist Majority have been my mentors for over two decades as they work domestically and internationally in support of women and girls. They are the publisher of Ms. Magazine and speak truthfully and with knowledge about issues around the globe. In 2017, I was honored to receive the Eleanor Roosevelt Award from the Feminist Majority for my ongoing commitment to reproductive rights. https://feminist.org

Crimson Goes Blue

CGB was founded after the 2016 election by the Harvard class of 1984. My friend is in that class, and I was inspired to hear about what they were doing. In 2020 I got involved myself! Crimson Goes Blue creates a portfolio for donors (like me!) that is well-researched, up to date, and strategic – they know where the money should go to ensure the most impact. An amazing organization! https://www.crimsongoesblue.org

All Saints Church

“Whoever you are, and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome here.”
All Saints is my church, my home base, my heart center, my respite. We are young and old and gay and straight and nonbinary and black and white, and all we do is talk about what love looks like in the world (hint: it looks like justice.) I am naturally interspiritual myself (I majored in Buddhism! Heritage Jewish! Raised in a Congregational church!), and I don’t even know if I’d call myself “Christian.” But neither would Jesus. I need a place to go for nourishment in this journey and All Saints is it! https://allsaints-pas.org
