A game changer. As a piece of art and for my career. “The Leftovers” came along when “Private Practice” was winding down. I was looking to make the jump from shiny network to gritty HBO. I could not have chosen a grittier show than this one. From the first season, where I had no language (and no makeup!) to the last season, where my character became an unlikely healer, “The Leftovers” fearlessly tackled grief, rage, cults, mystery, religion, violence, hope, and in the end …. Love. A show like no other. Showrunner (and now friend) Damon Lindelof and I walked through Central Park before beginning to shoot the pilot, and there – under generous maple trees and with no roadmap – we dreamed Laurie Garvey up. She remains with me still.
