I was living in New York (playing St. Joan onstage at Yale) when Stephen Bochco, David Milch, and Greg Hoblit tapped me to play Janice Licalsi. Little did we know it would change the world – and change my world in every possible way. I had done small jobs on television before, but this was my “big break” – I moved from New York to LA for good and, most importantly, met my husband, Brad Silberling, on the show. He directed episode 6 of season 1, and the rest is history. I loved the show’s groundbreaking and fearless spirit, and I loved Janice for her toughness and wounded heart. “NYPD Blue” was edgy before there was cable/streaming – we created a world that was compelling, enduring, and true.
