Mary Barlow – my character – was my first sociopath, as showrunner Harriet Warner lovingly says. But unlike Diana Blackwood in “Goliath,” Mary has a good reason for madness: her daughter was abducted seven years prior, and Mary cannot let go as those around her urge her to do. The steps she takes are the steps that any “good mother” would take. Harriet brilliantly created a descent into madness that took the audience right along. I loved this project – now seen on Amazon – as well as my brilliant collaborators: Harriet, Lily Rabe, and my constant scene partner, Hamish Linklater. We shot in a sultry New Orleans summer and did not have to imagine the sensuality, mystery, and plot twists as thick as kudzu.
